Dangs Girl

Joy radiates from a Dangs girl as she puts the finishing touches on her freshly plastered and decorated house for Diwali. Celebrating Rama’s return from exile, Diwali is the happiest of Hindu festivals. It is celebrated with infinite variation all over India on the 15th day of the month of Kartik, in either October or November. In villages, simple images of everyday life rendered in yellow turmeric powder or white lime are painted by women and young girls on their homes. The hand print has been used by divers societies around the world to ward off evil.
